Welp, good luck with this one.

Ok, so let's get this new pricing straight. Let's say you're coming in for senior pictures. You have the option of getting

-One 15 minute session to do all three outfits in where you pay $169 to get 8 sheets and a CD.

-Three 15 minute sessions (scheduled on different days), each in a different outfit, where for each shoot you pick your favorite pose of the entire shoot and get 4 sheets of that pose (minis don't count as a sheet). Total cost to you? $30. Sure, you don't get a CD, but that's what scanners and reorder sales are for.

Sears is lucky that most parents wouldn't dare do three shoots with a 2 year old.

Above all, I really hope that they don't raise your PRS expectations. That would be insane.

Yeah, you'd have to come back on three different days. It's happened before and it will happen still

Is anyone else just feeling completely overwhelmed and drained? I am usually looking forward to the holiday rush but this year I just don't even want to deal with it. With DM on me about everything, new prices, new goals, I just feel like I've been working/worrying nonstop. This past year has drained me physically and mentally.

If you have a coupon for 6@7.99 and then 2.99- do you still honor the 7.99 price?

Anonymous said...

The coupons all say "Pricing, availability and terms subject to change without notice". BUT if you look at the manager's Specials on the quick reference guide the 6@$7.99 then $2.99 is a manager's special... so I'm assuming we can use it at our discretion.

Anonymous said...

Did you also notice... the employee "discount"... sheets are still 75% off and everything else 40%... including.... the CD!!! It went from being 75% to 40%... so our price just went from $30 a CD to a whopping $120!!

Anonymous said...

Of course they r going to raise the PRS! That would be the point of raising prices!

Anonymous said...

It appears that I'm the next SM targetted in my district. I got a wonderful email that has goals that are unreachable. I may actually get to enjoy the holidays this year with my family. I'm opening my own studio soon anyway and have already talked to most of my customers about it. The new price increase just helped me there to get customers.

I had a mom who came in with her senior daughter Monday - Thursday, each day with another outfit, and a 4.99 coupon...nothing like getting senior pics for 20 bucks!...We were running out of ideas to please mommy and the girl....then cheap mom threw a fit that we wouldn't take them outside.....

Anonymous said...

I'm SO tired of all these changes, this coupon with that but not this, but will still honor other prev. sent, know the bonus program... like I've ever really "bonused" the last 3 years... , be on lookout for "operation excellence", 8 pages about new pricing to go over w/ each employee, conf. calls twice a week, reorder sale extended... outreach call list, refferrals to call, photo evaluations w/ all sales info.. when do I have time to be a photographer?

Anonymous said...

Ugh.... so i was bored most of the day today. then i have a 5pm, a lady coming at 5:30 to pick out photos BEFORE prices go up tomorrow, loads of deliveries, and the phone ringing off the hook... all in the last hour.

The best Part: @ 5:55 on the DOT i get a phone call, "can i still come in for pictures? "My Response "Uhhhh......" Because my 1st thought is, i have 5 customers here already and im alone, so NO! You can NOT! and then my 2nd thought is, This is my DM trying to get me to say No so he can fire me, so i better say Yes. So i tell her "if you are here before i leave i have to take you." She says "Ok. im going to fly down the interstate!" Low and Behold, she shows up. and she is the BATTIEST customer we have. as soon as i laid eyes on her, my heart literally sank to my feet. Shes the customer that comes in and says ill be SUPER quick! then takes 10min to get them dressed, 20min to feed them, 15 min to then change them, then another 10min to fix their dirtiness from just eating.... no exageration, she does this EVERY time! even when i tell her I have appts every 1/2 hr because GOD FORBID she EVER books an appointment!!!! And the whole time... "Now kids, we have to hurry because this lady wants to go home to her kids too!" But, she always says this, and still moves at a snails speed.

Then......... oh, THEN she orders NOTHING!!!! W/e she was going to package me anyways!

While she was *not* leaving and talking instead... she informs me that "well, i called to come here because i was just at Wal-Mart and they told me since they closed in 10min they werent allowed to take me." now THAT set me off..... do PM ppl not have to take closing appts like us??? I told her to go call their corporate because it is COMPANY POLICY to take closing appts. I follow the rules and get screamed at by my sitter for being 2 hours Late, they lied and got to go home!!

It freaking pisses me off that a customer can come in, use an hour of your time, and buy nothing. That should NOT be allowed, even for super saver members. They should always have to buy SOMETHING so that they at least cover the cost of us being there.

Anonymous said...

We had this one lady who had a 5pm appointment who could not understand why we wouldn't keep trying to make her kids smile after an hour. She actually said "what difference does it make?" She rescheduled for the next day at 4pm because there was already a 5pm scheduled. The next day she shows up 30 minutes late then has to dress her kids, then she's upset because she has to wait to pick out her pictuers while the associate took the other customer in to be photographed. Of course this lady only got BOGO sheets. Then to make matters worse after she picked up she claimed she was shorted sheets. She got mad when I explained that she got the exact number of sheets she paid for so there was no way she was shorted sheets. So she wasted about 3 hours of labor to spend about $60 then calls to complain. The manager told her she could come in and pay for the portraits if she wanted to but of course she hasn't come in.

Anonymous said...

BTW..... our PRS goal is LOWER than the orig $120!!

Anonymous said...

so today begins new pricing...i spent all day modifying sheet prices cause the new codes DONT WORK. thats what you get for changing pricing with a weeks notice

Anonymous said...

That's funny....I used the new codes today all day long, and so did my new associates. They worked just fine. Did your sas just not get updated? What area are you in?

Anonymous said...

Our new codes worked.... i tried to put in the old codes out of habit and it wouldnt accept them, it said they were expired. So, we cant even let the really pissy customers have the old prices... yay.

Anonymous said...

I wish they would fire me. Im tired of my manager calling me and cussing me out. She loves to belittle me when she is stressed.

Anonymous said...

My phone sure did ring a lot today..I don't work for SPS anymore and I tell you..the price increase was JUST what I needed..thanks CPI!..lol! I have 2 appts tomorrow and 3 on the weekend. Love it..

Anonymous said...

my mgr is stalkerish. "what time are you coming in to work?" what time does my schedule say? do they play lets see how many times we can call her before she cracks?

Anonymous said...

Turn off your phone...it's not written in your job description that you MUST have a phone..that is discrimination...I kept mine off or just ignored it when it went off..I had a specific song that was assigned to anyone from work. That way I could yell out to my roomie...DON'T ANSWER IT!....hey, if I ain't getting paid for it..I ain't answering it!

Anonymous said...

Yea, ive turned it off...... then i get BAD voicemails about ignoring her and she starts texting me... i dont have free texting either so i then have to pay for her to yell at me.

Anonymous said...

Another thing for our customers to yell about is the fact that sps's website still has the "Everyday Special" of buy 6 @ $7.99 addtl is $2.99. Except when they come in, they're offered sheets at $9.99.

Anonymous said...

"Yea, ive turned it off...... then i get BAD voicemails about ignoring her and she starts texting me... i dont have free texting either so i then have to pay for her to yell at me."

You can make a little phone call to HR and let them know you feel harassed because your personal cell phone is being used for your boss to call you constantly while you are off the clock. They will simply tell her not to do that and you cannot get in trouble for it. I know this because my phone bill was over $350. a month for 2 months in a row because I had taken over a new studio and they had my cell number. I was told by Char Felox, that I was stupid for answering my personal phone while not clocked in and to stop answering it. If there is anything important they can leave me a note and it can wait, or they can call another studio. So when I got a new boss (DM) and she wanted my cell number, I gave her my house number only. She got my cell number from someone anyway and started calling me before work and making me late. After about a month of this I asked her one day after a 30 minute phone call, "how do you want me to put this time in, as hours worked or meeting time?" She was floored but couldn't argue and just said "hours worked" and never called my cell again!

I don't have a phone because I am only making 9 bux as a manager and can't afford it. I was told to get one or I would get demoted to associate..I called Tammy right away and told her what he said..he got reprimanded and if I was getting any residual punishment as a result to let her know ASAP!

They can leave me a note, or an email or call another studio. My time is MY time and everyone knows that I don't have a phone. Hey, pay me what other SM are getting and maybe I could afford it. I am living in subsidized housing and 9 bux an hour doesn't cut it.

Anonymous said...

Yup, i make $9 too. I have a family of 5 and my Husband was laid off almost 2 yrs ago so i cant afford to drive 20min to work, hubby drive 20min back home and then back and forth AGAIN to pick me up for only 3hrs.... Know what i was told? "Thats Not an excuse." If i dont even make enough money to pay for my Gas to get there.... yea, its NOT an excuse, its a reason!!!

like the jingle bells tune. so NOW we are getting chewed out for our PRS lowering after the price change. and its obvious we hadnt explained the price change to our employees correctly. no its obvious people are not fools arent going to spend more money on the same crap and are gonna package and find a new portrait studio. they could care less what percent they get off AFTER they sped $170 when we could barely get them into $100 before.

Anonymous said...

Free collage... yeah, just what we need at a time when parents come in for halloween costume portraits... let's give it away where you get 3 or 4 poses on the collage (depending on which collage they select) instead of having them buy a couple of sheets. At least Mom would have bought a SHEET IF SHE HADN'T HAD THAT FREE COLLAGE. Oh yeah, "Grandma doesn't put up pictures in Halloween costumes, these pictures are just for me".
And I just received the new mailer coupon today at home with $2.99 sheet w/ purchase of 6 @ reg price $7.99. (I am going out to buy "Stress Squeeze Balls" for my team to use. Maybe I will draw my DM's face on them first!)
BREATH & SQUEEZE to help relieve stress!

I'm throwing in the towel. I'm done with SPS. I can't handle the stress from above anymore. I'm turning in my notice soon. I plan to enjoy my christmas holiday season (in my own studio).

Burger King..here I come..lol! *hey, it pays better!*

TWO of our regular customers that buy the bronze collection w/ cd everytime they come in told me they are not coming back to us due to "the ridiculous price increase"... I did honor the old $129.00 price for them this time to get them to buy and NOT walk out. One customer threw her smile saver card on the counter and wanted her $ back for it since she isn't coming back and had just renewed it! God... is this a sign of things to come?
Now that I've convinced our regulars that they DO need the cd (for the past year) I sure as hell don't want to offer the collections without it now but can hardly keep a sincere face when telling them the cost of the cd has gone up, therefore the collections are higher... and NO, unless you get the platinum, you don't get any additional sheets, collages etc for the price increase.
And so the season begins.......
Fa La La La La, La La La La

Anonymous said...

had a woman scream at me because i told her i would honor the 6 sheets at 7.99 and the additional at $2.99 for her this time. she screamed bc she wanted the cd for $10 and i told her that was with qualifying purchase. she screamed i said i would honor the coupon and didnt understand what "as low as" meant. new job cant start soon enough

Anonymous said...

I absolutely agree with the poster concerning the free collage at Halloween time. I had more than my share of free collages with packages or single-sheet purchases. Hey, the geniuses at the top can do and will do what they think best. If they want to create more unproductive foot traffic, they've succeeded. Continuing to send out coupons with $7.99 stated as the regular price is just plain stupid. It makes you think that the recent price increases were a reactive scheme to save some top-management bonuses. At the bottom of the chain it's impossible to know all the reasons behind policy, but, even so, some of it does come across as scattered and short-sighted. I guess that shouldn't be a surprise. Look at all the over-paid luminaries who turned Citicorp into a financial vegetable living on public assistance. I can't imagine our guys being any brighter.

To My DM:
PLEASE, PLEASE Fire me for my numbers being down! It would SO make my day!!
Unemployment is looking better and better.
Has anyone who's been let go for #'s being down been denied unemployment? I am keeping coupons,BOGO card, daily sales reports, and scorecards (to show I am not the only studio down) as backup for unemployment if needed. Any other suggestions?

Anonymous said...

Ive been praying to be fired as well. I cant afford to just quit and have no unemployment, i would make MORE money on umemployment with NO stress and Bullshit.

Anonymous said...

Its pretty bad when everyone who used to love what they do are praying to be fired and are looking for other employment. And the company has done it to itself. Good luck this Christmas season SPS. Your going to need it.

Anonymous said...

I've been keeping scorecards to show that I'm not the only one down (and not worst in the district), write ups, contradictions in email/browser updates, etc. Keep anything that will show that you're (we're) being set up to fail by the company. I too am hoping my DM comes in fires me for being down. I'm sick of sps and the stress.

Anonymous said...

I was terminated last year for low numbers...I was given benefits immediately. I don't think my claim was even contested.

Anonymous said...

I was written up on 11 counts because they were trying to fire me. When I proved that all points were at or above SPS, they fired me for no reason. I got benefits right away. EDD in Cali was not happy that they were putting someone else out of a job during these times.
BUT...if they can prove that you were let go due to poor job performance, they will contest it or deny your claim. Just keep EVERYTHING including timecards, e-mails, write ups. And don't be afraid to write on those corrective actions exactly what you think and defend yourself. It will look better than you protesting and not signing it if you need any proof.

Anonymous said...

Well if your keeping track of the contradictions you should have a book by now. Nobody knows whether their coming or going.

Anonymous said...

They did raise our PRS expectations. In my studio by $15, which means either we only sell collections or are under.

Anonymous said...

I just received an email at home today form SPS.... letter from Darla Earhart with holiday wishes to you and your family AND to start the holiday off right, use the coupon below to take an EXTRA 20% off your entire purchase AND THAT INCLUDES portrait collections that already give you a savings of over 60%!
(Expires Nov. 30th) OH yeah... NO session fee...and how are we suppose to convert them to buy ss/ cards? EVERY coupon I have seen last 6 months has had no session fee. (As my customers have pointed out.. they don't need a s/s card as they have 3 or 4 NO SESSION Fee coupons at home.)

Anonymous said...

I don't expect them to fire anyone this close to "busy season" (heaven forbid they say Christmas, or even the Holidays!!) but first thing January we all could be in the line of fire!!

Anonymous said...

I don't know with them training everyone to replace each other. There's a lot of SM positions being posted on hotjobs.com. I check their daily to see if my position is listed since the DM has posted positions prior to the employee being terminated.

Anonymous said...

I had a dream last night:
I wasnt on the schedule, but i had to go in and pick something up, i get there and there is a line of 2 diff Large groups (1 didnt have an appt.)and they were both going to 9.99. So i ended up being made to stay. I go into 1 of the camera rooms and the lights dont work and the Backgrounds are ripped up all over the ground. Then i walk back out to the counter and a line of a 100 people picking up their pics. Then my kids woke me up.... Thank-God!

Anonymous said...

From what I understand CPI has another company that handles the unemployment filings...I got benefits for basically being sick. I had something awful and my DM told me to come in or not to bother coming in at all.

I get 200 bucks a week!..they contested it 2x and it ultimately is up to the unemployment office..take all of your proof into them!

Anonymous said...

I have heard second hand it is going to be a prime time for the company to purge employees that are not meeting expectations after Christmas. Especially the ones that are costing the company more on the bottom line.

The new price change was done because they think the recession is ending and they wanted to jump on the profit train. Plus there is another bonus since the bonus money is based on last year studio performance they will come out ahead on that one.

We were set up to fail. The company thinks they will be more profitable if they can get all the new Manager's in Training in place after the first of the year. Look for mass firings or asking present studio manager's to step down because of performance issues. There are over 400 hundred job openings for Manager's, Manager's in Training on Hot Jobs, Craig's List and a few more.

You need to get your records in order if your going to fight the company's denials of unemployment benefits.

Anonymous said...

I was very skeptical about the price increases, but my studio has actually seen a wonderful increase in sales AND PRS and we have had very minimal customer complaints regarding the higher prices.

Anonymous said...

You're a lucky studio. Mine hasn't seen the same results. PRS is the same or lower, sales are down even more and we've been hit with more packages.

Anonymous said...

Yes my PRS is up at PMPS as well but my sits are the same or a little more. Plus I am not meeting my goals set at 4100.00/wk and the sitting goals are not being met. Last year at Christmas my goal for the week was 3000/week at Christmas time and sitting goals were half of what they are now. We are all being warned by the DM about not meeting the weekly goals at the moment.

Anonymous said...

apparently this past weekend was supposed to be the busiest of the season.... we only needed 3 employees working. it was rediculously slow and i dont see it picking up any more than it already has.

With that being said, our PRS has went up significantly since the pricing increase. Which was a major shock to all of us.

Anonymous said...

Here's one for ya'll...
I recently visited my former studio and was able to get a look at the numbers. My last year I moved the studio into super high volume and finished at $410,000.00 Then the economy got scary and I began being harassed and threatened by DM for my numbers and sits being down for the first time in 15 years. Finally, I was termed for poor performance. My replacement was good friends (clears throat) with DM and was waiting in the wings to take over. I was 11% down when I was fired in September. New manager finished the year out with a lower PRS, sits down over 50%, and a sales loss of OVER $200,000.00!!! Not only does she still have a job, I hear she's soon to be promoted. So, apparently there is job security at CPI...if you go about it the right way. Any thoughts?

Anonymous said...

I left SPS after the rush last year, and got hired at Target for this winter. I got a $2/hr raise, making more than the A/M at my old studio does. There aren't nearly as many restrictions, the prices are better, and our studio is in the green for the entire year. I haven't felt an ounce of pressure about watching sales averages or anything. It's so much better.

i got a new job recently. dealing with patient records and medical terminology. during training i realized that the system and medical billing and coding is SO much easier then sas. not to mention no sales and im making $5 more an hour to basically be a seceratary. get out while you can people!!

I'm glad to see lots of people from my former district jumping ship at this time of year. It warms my heart to think that all those talented people are in jobs where they will be respected and treated properly during the holidays. And the fact that CPI is scrambling in my area to find employees is a bonus! Someone should let the higher ups know about the old adage, "you reap what you sew".

Tis the season for runny noses, coughing kids and spreading it to ALL employees. Twice this week I had 2 Moms come in with kids that "were too sick to go to school" to come in for pictures. What the hell? One kid even said "Mommy and I are both sick!" Hand sanitizer? Give me a break... what about all the things they are touching and the air I am breathing while they are coughing and sneezing? Our church has a sign up.. "If you are sick, please DO NOT come to church and infect others."
OBVIOUSLY common sense does not prevail!

I feel really bad for those of you who have dm's riding your but when you are doing everything you can, and having crappy customers. I had a really shitty day and had 2 customers tell me straight up that I should be fired and that sears (cpi) must be desperate to have me as a manager, cause I can't do my job.

I feel bad for everyone who doesn't understand the price change. My studio is a high volume studio and our PRS Goal is 175, very hard to do...but our dm knows that we are doing everything we can to get there and explaining why we had the price change. I've worked for the company for over 4 years and the price of the collections have never changed. I think that it was long overdo for price changes. I think it was crappy to do right before christmas and right after we were hiring new people and training the on old prices. And as for the operations excellence...haven't you noticed on the broswer that they don't have any updates on it? Obviously, it wasn't working so the program is not being instilled and the person over that program is no longer with the company... Plus, the DM's are getting ridden by their RM's and the RM's are getting ridden from the top.

Also, one of the customers that said I should get fired was pissed because she couldn't get her free 8x0 and a free 10x3 also...I even showed her the email from corporate and she wanted a refund for her ssc that she's had forever. Just flag the bad customers, customer service won't give them stuff and tell your dm, they will explain it to you.

And to the mass firing after christmas, I am higher paid then the sm's that are making 9 and hour, and I am getting promoted within the next year as well as my manager. They didn't raise the prices because they want to fire people for poor performance, they are trying to buy other portrait companies so that way more good managers can get promoted and have the opportunity to expand and grow.

Target worker, I'm glad you found something better than cpi...I just honestly couldn't work for a company that didn't care what I did. The goals are so unbelievably low that there are no expectations. I need a challenge and that's why I love working at CPI. I'm not trying to come off that you shouldn't have left, if you don't enjoy your job you shouldn't be there. The first time I worked for cpi, I had to give 2 weeks, cause I just wasn't in the place to work. 2 years later when I needed some direction in my life, I reapplied at cpi and have been there ever since. Yeah the customers suck at xmas, but then comes january and you are dead trying to bring in any kind of business. That's what so great about jan, and feb...you get the break that you needed.

I'm pretty sick of watching old ladies' eyes well up with tears when I tell them the prices have gone up and a cd, which they used to get super cheap, is now $200.

These coupons are so bogus. I have been trying to enforce the one coupon per customer rule because I had way too many people trying to get the $7.99 package, free collage, 10x13, and sitting fee. I tried to explain that this was over$100 worth of merchandise and labor, and that we were basically paying her for coming in at that rate. She couldn't comprehend this because "She was paying!" Not enough to cover costs honey. Then when I showed her the fine print that said she couldn't combine coupons, she looked me right in the eye and said, "No it doesn't." I then realized that she was a completely unreasonable person and was thrilled when she said she was just going to leave.

What is it about portrait studios that make people think that everything should be free?

You work in an office, try it 1 day by yourself book every half hour with customer staring at your district manager's picture and phone # going to pass out from not getting a lunch in a 9 hour shift sore because you have to work 6 days a week to get you 35 hours a week and get paid WAY LESS than your worth for a company that asks you to "make efforts" off the clock, and asks way too much of 1 person!!

You really did that to a studio..thats awsome!! someone that has to put up with daily. I bet writing these comment makes you feel all worm and fuzzy inside.
