The promise of advancement

We already know how there's opportunity for advancement over at SPS because everyone leaves. But at the same time, what's sometimes worse is the promise of advancement that never comes. From the time I started at SPS, my studio manager was always told that she was soon going to be an area manager. It was always just around the corner and always something that we had to prepare for. Yet, a year later, nothing changed and she was still stuck in the same studio. Similarly, I was told that I was being looked at for a position where I would go around setting up studios and getting everyone prepped and ready. Either that or I could take the position of my studio manager when she moved up.

I'm not the only one out their either. The following comment from yesterday reminded me of this:
"I make $8 an hour and have been with the company almost a year now. I'm a five star photographer and my average sale has never dropped below 115. I've been falsley promised the Assistant manager as well as an M.I.T position many times and my DM refuses to give me a number on what I will be making if I do get those positions.

The only reason I havent quit is because I can't find any other place that starts off higher than minimum wage - or that is hiring, for that matter."

Our Assistant manager was Fired in January. I was asked BEFORE she was fired if i wanted to replace her when the time comes. Of course i said OK.

As soon as she was gone, i started working the long hours and doing some of the duties. My husband even had to switch to 3rd shift so i could work more.

They didnt promote me and give me my whopping $1.50 raise until JUNE. Six months Later.

I think this is a common tactic in studios- associates are led to believe they might be promoted, and it leads to a very competitive atmosphere. And who do you think benefits from that?

For me to receive my promotion, I ended up having to move, I was promised a management position when I moved, but when we got into town, I was told that the Dm couldn't wait any longer and had already filled the position with someone else. She knew exactly when we were moving, so why did I waste my time? Besides that, I was placed in a studio that I had to drive over an hour to get to from my house, when there was a studio about 5 minutes away from where we got a house. I was also promised a cost of living raise when I moved, I was only making almost $8 an hour from my last studio, and I was told that I was going to get $9 an hour, I was pissed when I found out that all new associates start out at $8 an hour and when they have completed the wgtp training, they get the $1 raise......and I had been working for this company for 4 years and these people are here for 6 months and make the same as me...
Anyways, I finally got my promotion when I had a fit about gas prices. But the whole reason I never got the original position was cause the DM didn't like me...Needless to say this person no longer works for the company...
