Management by capital letters

I don't know about you, but nothing motivates me more than capital letters. You know, like, "TEAM it is VERY IMPORTANT that you make your days today! Anything below that will be UNACCEPTABLE! NO EXCUSES!"

That's the kind of encouragement I love. I'm glad it seems to be in the managment training manual.

Yelling at us thru E-mail has to be DMs favorite Hobby....... or so it would seem anyways.

Studio managers do the best they can...their jobs are threatend almost daily, they work single coverage, don't get days off as scheduled, and they often work 12-14 hour days this time of year. As much as it sucks, this is one of the few jobs where you can make a decent hourly wage without a college degree.

Im asst. Manager and dont make enough money to put up with the crap that goes on. Its not a decent wage at all. Especially since we do go thru all the things u listed.... plus LOADS more.

$18.00 per hour in my neck of the woods is a decent wage.

The highest I have ever heard of a mgr making is $15.50 an hour...I'm an asst mgr and I only get $11. How the hell did you wind up with $18?

Here is one of those "motivating" messages from our DM cut right from Studio Mail...notice it's ALL IN CAPS?

HEY EVERYONE JUST A LITTLE NOTE TO ALL OF YOU. SO FAR THIS WEEK WE ARE LAST IN THE TERRITORY. AS ALL OF YOU KNOW I HAVE SENT OUT A LIST OF GOALS. THEY ARE VERY REALISTIC AND REACHABLE. I DO EXPECT YOU TO GIVE IT 100%. WE HAVE TO GET THESE SITS UP AND THE CURRENT PRS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I
WANT THE COLLECTIONS PRINTED AND USED AND OUT ON SALES TABLES. DO NOT EMAIL ME EXCUSES, OR YOUR OWN IDEAS, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT WORKING! ITS TIME WE GET CONTROL OF PAYROLL AND OUR STUDIOS WHERE THEY SHOULD BE. ITS A TEAM
EFFORT. I DO HAVE A COUPLE OF STUDIOS THAT GIVE ME 100% THAT RUN THE PRS, THAT GET THOSE SITS IN. PULL UP THE DAILY SALES REPORT AND COMPARE. WE HAVE 4 DAYS TO PULL US UP, AND I EXPECT GREAT THINGS. PRINT OUT THE GOALS I SENT EACH OF YOU, SHARE THEM, AND ACCOMPLISH THEM. AT THE CLOSE OF EVERY DAY I WANT AN E-MAIL OF WHERE YOU ARE WITH ALL THESE GOALS. DON'T
MAKE ME HUNT YOU DOWN FOR THESE STATS. ITS YOUR JOB! NOW LETS ROCK THE REST OF THIS WEEK. DON'T GO OVER HRS I GAVE YOU, UNLESS YOU DO MORE SITS THAN I GAVE YOU...... THANK YOU

hey guys look at it this way if you were the DM catching the crap from corporate, you would be yelling too. remember the old adage crap rolls down hill. i work in the picture me side of the company and after 7 years i'm looking at losing my job because the economy is in the crapper and sales are down and i have three different studios 2 blocks down the street, one of which gets theirs back in an hour. CPI has set unrealistic goals for a time when the economy is declining rapidly and their answer to everything is fire them and move on and hopefully the next warm body will catch a break and make some money. in the mean time they have dropped yet another soul in the fiery hell of economic collapse, but do they lose any sleep? no. because the all mighty dollar will still land in their pockets long after all of us have starved to death because we weren't making enough money for them. sleep well!

I to have felt the sting of terrible mis management in the last 9 months, my district has lost 7 Managers. When I say managers I'm talking about seasoneed, groomed, positve managers that have crumpled under the intense scrutiny of tyrannical DM's and Regionals. I have been with the company for the greater part of a decade, and have moved up through the ranks from lowely part-timer to asst, to now Manager. I live in a town that was directly affected by a major layoff and have been told that it does not have any bearing on my ability to not make my insanly unrealistic goals. I have been overwhelmed with studio visits. Intimidation verbal lashings until I broke down and cried. On top of everything else I have been threatened with termination for going on about 9 months now and it is reaching epic preportions with daily reminders of how close to the edge I am getting by not meeting goals. I am at my wits end and the only "off the record" things I'm told is that I'm a great employee and they really want me to step down, take a major paycut, and resume my position as workhorse,I mean assistant. Which I could not support a family on anyway because I can hardley support my family with what I make now! It is a sick world when dedication, honor, and integrity are traded for a couple bucks to line corporates deep pockets.. I was so surprised that others felt the way I did, I had to post. Whats really terrible is they do this to everyone and no one stands up to them, and that big corporation. This company prides themselves on being family friendly and fair. Hardly. They are snakes in the grass. I'm sure their unethical and abusive & bullying buisiness practices will come under intense scrutiny if they don't check their overzealous ego's at the door...
